Mary Louise Holt has a diverse background in many areas of art through 28 years of professional experience. She was an honors graduate from the College of Mount Saint Joseph with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She started her career as a graphic designer and illustrator. For many years she often worked as a courtroom artist for local and national television. Today, with extensive training in the academic tradition of fine portraiture, she continues to paint many portraits on commission for private collectors.
Using her skills in design and illustration she worked for many years as an exhibit designer for museums, zoos, nature centers or other scientific institutions involved with environmental education. Her exhibits often included illustrations or murals depicting subjects from nature. Her exhibits have been displayed throughout the United States and abroad.
Mary Louise Holt has always had a passion for natural history. Today she often combines her skills as a wildlife, landscape and figurative painter to create compelling images of the Eastern American Frontier as it existed before European settlement. Through her art she brings to life on canvas the Eastern Woodland Indians and the Wilderness that sustained them.
She is a member of the Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, Susan K. Black Foundation 2004 scholarship recipient and a member of Artists for conservation. She is a founding member and director of Masterworks for Nature. Her work has been exhibited in national and international art competitions. Her work has also been on exhibit at several prestigious museums including the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History and Science, the Hiram Blauvelt Art Museum, The Audubon Museum and the Charles Darwin Museum in Down, England.
