Watercolors, birds and wildlife

A native of California, Linda J. Parkinson has been painting animals and portraits since childhood. She is an honors graduate in animal sciences from the University of Maryland. Her post-graduate studies in wildlife at Humboldt State University involved Linda in wildlife rehabilitation and education, which inspired her transition to wildlife art. Linda's beautiful watercolor paintings have shown and won awards throughout California and Oregon, and can be found in private collections worldwide. In 1997 her painting "Captive Beauty" was juried Best of Show in the Humboldt County Fair, and then went on to take 2nd Place in the Best of Show Competition at the 1998 California State Fair.

Although her education is in the sciences, Linda continues to expand her artistic knowledge and experience. She has attended several workshops, including John Seery-Lester's Master Class, WES Jackson Hole Workshop with Robert Bateman, and Beartooth School of Art with Paco Young and John Seerey-Lester. In 2010, Linda received a scholarship to attend the 9th annual Susan Kathleen Black Foundation artist workshop in Dubois, Wyoming. While there, Linda worked and painted with such noted artists as David Rankin, Mort Solberg, Lee Cable, Wanda Mumm, and Soon Y. Warren. She is actively involved in supporting local, national, and international wildlife & environmental organizations with donations of her artwork. Linda is currently volunteers for the Humboldt Wildlife Care Center, as a member of their Education Team and Raptor Team.

In June, 2003, Linda was the featured artist in American Falconry Magazine, Vol. 31. Also in 2003, Linda's beautiful watercolor of a Northern Spotted Owl was accepted into the Oakland Natural History Museum's juried show of native California species, "The Art of Seeing". In 2002, her original watercolor "Baby Brown Pelican" was a finalist in the Artist's Magazine's Annual Art Competition. This same painting won the Best of Show award for watercolor in the Mendocino Marine Wildlife International juried show in March 2007. Also in 2007, Linda's "Harris Hawk" painting was a finalist in the Artist's Magazine Art Competition in the animal catagory. In 2008, her painting "The Promise", featuring Northern Gannets, won Best of Show in watercolor at the Mendocino Marine Wildlife International Juried Show.

Linda's artwork has been published in Wildlife Art Magazine, and in two books: Namibia, the Independant Traveler, Hippocrene Books and Catalog of California Seabird Colonies, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Publications. Linda works in several mediums, including watercolor, acrylics & oils. Her subjects range from local to exotic birds and animals and their habitats. Her beautiful parrot portraits have been collected by parrot breeders and fanciers worldwide, and several examples can be seen on the China Prairie website( www.chinaprairie.com ). In 1999, her artwork was commissioned by the city of Arcata, CA to celebrate and advertise their annual migratory bird festival, Godwit Days.

A limited selection of Linda's art has just recently become available as Limited Edition Giclee Prints, and a larger selection of her work is available as high quality digital prints and on fine art greeting cards.
