FLAT-TAILED HORNED LIZARD
(2011)
Subject: Flat-tailed Horned Lizard Dimensions (inches): 20 x 30 Medium: acrylic on illustration board Description: An unusual member of its genus, the Flat-tailed Horned Lizard (Phrynosoma m'callii) is more spry than the typical waddling horned lizard. This, along with its relatively long tail and slender build, give it a countenance resembling the Colorado Desert Fringe-toed Lizard, which shares its tiny range where the states of Arizona, California, Sonora and North Baja meet. Although its numbers are currently large enough to keep it off the endangered species list, loss of its mixed desert hardpan/loose sand habitat represents a real threat to this reptile.
