The Essence of Eagles
Subject: Eagle
Dimensions (inches): 13 x 13 x 8
Medium: Colorado Pink Alabaster on Vermont Windham Marble Base
Description: Essence: that which makes something what it is; intrinsic - belonging to the real nature of a thing. Soaring gracefully or perched high atop a craggy spire, the eagle has long been held in high esteem by the many races of man. Welsh legend tells of how the souls of the dead assumed the form of eagles and flew to heaven. The Iroquois called the eagle 'Cloud Spirit' in the belief that the eagle, transcending the clouds, carried the souls of the dead to the heavens. Over the course of history the eagle has been the symbol of many things to many different peoples. Even today, the eagle symbolizes freedom, strength and power. Strength, power, transcendence, freedom----the essence of eagles. This sculpture was selected for the Allied Artists of America 92nd Annual Exhibition in New York City and also received the Patron's Award for Realism at the Caldwell Arts Council 20th Annual Sculpture Celebration in Lenoir, North Carolina.
