The Art of Nature:
Images From the Wildlands of Southern Nevada
Carson City, Nevada – Award-winning artist and naturalist Sharon K. Schafer provides us with an opportunity to journey through the public lands of Southern Nevada. The exhibit, "The Art of Nature: Images from the Wildlands of Southern Nevada," was developed in partnership with the Nevada State Museum.
The multimedia program and exhibit is designed to take the visitor into wilderness areas of southern Nevada through Schafer's photographs, paintings, drawings and educational text. With her work, Sharon skillfully invites the viewer to take a closer look at nature's exquisite complexity and often overlooked beauty. "Southern Nevada is not a desert wasteland. It is home to unparalleled natural beauty in its landscape and great diversity in its wildlife," Schafer explained.
Opening reception and multimedia presentation will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at the Nevada State Museum-Carson City. The reception will be held from 5-7 pm with Schafer's multimedia presentation "The Art of Nature: Images from the Wildlands of Southern Nevada" at 7:00-8 p.m. Admission is free and registration is not required.
Schafer brings a wealth of talents and experience to her work, specializing in beautifully artistic yet scientifically accurate images that appeal to the art collector and the environmental educator alike. In addition to being an artist and naturalist, she is a wildlife biologist, river guide, writer, and award-winning designer.
In 2000, Schafer established Skydance Studio in Boulder City, Nevada, in an effort to combine her interest in art and nature. She has dedicated herself to creating products and images that promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of the beauty and diversity of nature. Schafer is a proud member of the international organizations Artists for Conservation and the Society of Animal Artists and donates a portion of her sales to conservation causes.
