Plein-air painting As a plein air painter, I paint in the best location possible to get the scene I want. I have been known to paint standing in the middle of rivers, standing on steep cliffs, standing on the bow of bobbing boats, standing at very awkard angles, standing under briges, and while riding horses.

Plein Air Painting My most exciting plein air expereience was painting early spring in Yellowstone NP. I was at Mid-way Geyser Basin with a herd of buffalo below me. Over the course of the 2 hours I was painting, the herd gradually moved towards me. All of a sudden, I heard a car screech to a stop. A man jumped out of the car and ran towards the buffalo herd. Yep, he started a stampede and they were headed directly for me. wWith nothing but a French box easel to protect me, I stood there as the buffalo went on both sides of me.
