Statement

A love for wildlife sprung from growing up with a family that most often enjoyed their vacations camping and trekking through very rural spaces, from parks to ghost towns, where she was encouraged to respect, delight in and appreciate the wilderness and wildlife. An early invitation to a school sponsored summer art program that focused on drawing and painting at the San Diego Zoo helped direct her interest toward wildlife art. An invitation to life drawing at San Diego State University encouraged her to enroll but the art courses didn't speak to her & she changed her major to biology.

Later she spent 2 years volunteering to care for and lecture about endangered felines at the EFBC (Endangered Feline Breeding Compound). She and her husband have spent their lives involved with horses & cattle. They have moved to northern Minnesota where they built a home on the shores of a gorgeous, secluded lake surrounded by wildlife.

Linda has taken several long horse treks through the high Sierra Mountains along with trips throughout the world including 5 driving trips through Europe, a long driving trip through New Zealand & recently a private 2 week motor tour through Kenya where she could fulfill a lifelong dream to immerse herself in the African wildlife. Travel to both foreign places & within the Americas is of a high priority as she believes that it is an integral ingredient when portraying the life around us.

Her detailed paintings of wildlife are widely sought after and are included in books such as Best of Wildlife Artists II and more recently in featured articles in Wildlife Artists Magazine, Horses in Art among others. She has many times been a featured artist at fine art shows and often won top awards in competitions and extended invitations to exhibitions such as the Artists for the New Century at the Bennington. She is a signature and associate member of several art associations, Recent awards include Gold & Silver medals at the SanDimas 2010 wildlife & 2011 western shows, Award of Excellence at the 2011 OPA Eastern regional show.

Painting has always been her choice of communication; her natural ability is augmented with schooling, and a wide variety of carefully selected workshops on painting, photography and sculpture. She is always striving to learn more and finds that giving workshops of her own is a way of bettering her own work.

Working in thin layers of oils gives the paint the translucency that it was made for. Gessoed panels work as a wonderful substrate that allows for control of the textures. Special attention is paid to drawing, light, form, edges, values as the work progresses. Each aspect must be addressed to make a cohesive & interesting painting.
