Wildlife and Nature

Lindsey Foggett's future seemed determined from a very early age. Growing up in a small village in the heart of the English countryside, she soon developed a love and fascination for wildlife and nature. Encouraged by two artistically talented parents, her passion to paint and study wildlife was to evolve into a lifelong career. Self-taught, Lindsey paints primarily with acrylic, gouache and oil, and has painted full time since 1982. She works in a natural, detailed style, striving to portray not only realism, but also to capture the mood and personality of the animals.

North American predatory animals feature predominantly in her work. "I enjoy painting a wide variety of animals," Lindsey states, "but I must confess to a preoccupation with the predators. I find them quite intriguing, partly because they are so elusive to study it is so exhilarating to see a wolf, or Bear in the wild." She depicts not only the powerful and intense nature of their personality, but also likes to show their gentle, playful nurturing side.

To obtain reference for her work, she has traveled to Europe, East Africa and throughout much of North America, favouring Alaska and Canada for its remote wilderness, where she observes, sketches and photographs wildlife in their natural habitats. As a member of WREAF (wilderness Rivers Expedition Art Foundation) she has participated in a number of wilderness canoeing expeditions. The last being a 170 mile journey on the George River, in Northern Quebec, Canada, ending in the Arctic Ocean.

Currently residing in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California, she has an abundance of reference for new paintings. Local trails into the wilderness surround her home, where bears, mountain lions, bobcats, deer, Big Horn Sheep, raccoons, coyotes and many other animals are frequently sighted.
San Gorgonio Gallery, owned by Lindsey, displays her work full time, in Forest Falls, California. For enquiries please call the Gallery at (909)794-3739
