Description: Woodchucks, commonly called 'groundhogs' or 'whistle pigs' because of their habit ot whistling shrilly when alarmed, are actually oversized members of the squirrel family. I met these two 'whistle pigs' while doing research for a book. They had been orphaned as babies, and were raised by a wildlife rehabilitator who later released them on her farm. The painting appears in my book Wildlife Painting Basics: Small Animals. (Artists Collection)
