The Berry Patch
(1987)
Subject: Eastern Box Turtle Dimensions (inches): 18 x 24 Medium: Oil on panel Description: 'Each spring, my family and I rescue a couple of dozen box turtles as they attempt to cross roads. We either release them on our farm, or if it looks like good turtle habitat where they are, we move them to the other side of the road in the direction they were heading. We take injured turtles to a local veterinary clinic that takes in wildlife. They can sometimes repair cracked shells with epoxy glue. The turtle is then given to a wildlife rehabilitator until it can be released into the wild.'--JFS (Artist's Collection) Best in Show, Art and Wildlife in Kentucky, 1989
