New Season - Sharp-tailed Grouse
(2017)
Subject: Sharp-tailed Grouse Dimensions (inches): 16 x 20 Medium: acrylic on board Description: This painting was donated to the Wallace Stegner artists residency house located in Eastend Saskatchewan, Canada as a celebratory gift to the house turning 100 years old in 2017.
Male Sharp-tailed Grouse can be found dancing in groups across much of the Great Plains in the spring time on dancing grounds referred to as "leks". This so called dancing is done as a courtship performance to impress females who may become future mates for the male grouse in the near future. For me, hearing and seeing Sharp-tailed Grouse is a sign of a new and exciting season beginning after what can be somewhat long, dark, and cold winters. This painting was donated to the Wallace Stegner House (artists residence house) in Eastend Saskatchewan in celebration of the house turning 100 years old in 2017.
