(2007)
Dimensions (inches): 20 x 24 Medium: Photograph Description: Elusive and transitory, Caribbean reef sharks share membership in the family of requiem sharks and range over the edge of reef areas in a constant patrol for reef fish, rays, and large crabs. Found in the tropical areas of the western Atlantic and the Caribbean, these apex predators reach upwards of nine feet, and generally avoid divers, unless provoked. 'As I positioned myself well beneath a coral reef,' Wyland says. 'Two caribbean reef sharks glided overhead to investigate. It was one of those perfect moments painted by my underwater camera.'
