74th Miniature Painters Sculptors & Gravers Exhibit - Washington DC |

"Calm - Great Egret" (watercolor on Ivorine), was awarded 'Second in Show', the 'Manny Sullivan Award for Excellence', at the 74th Miniature Painters Sculptors & Gravers Exhibit of Washington, DC (the oldest miniature art society in America - http://www.mpsgs.org/). The artist was honored to have received this award for her wildlife paintings for the second year in a row.
Rebecca's watercolors "Polar Ambiance" and "Timberwolf" were chosen for first place in 'Watermedia' and first place in 'Birds and Animals' respectively. Judge, Carol Lee Thompson, and those of the administration of the MPSGS.
The exhibit of 699 miniature works of art shown at the Strathmore Mansion (in North Bethesda, MD) represents artists from 38 US states and 12 foreign countries.
Rebecca's sister, Bonnie, debuted one miniature painting of a Mute Swan titled "Light" in the exhibit this year also - her work was awarded in "Birds & Animals" as well.
The Miniature Painters, Sculptors & Gravers Society of Washington, DC, (MPSGS) was founded in 1931 by Alyn Williams (1865-1941), a well-known portrait miniaturist. The MPSGS is the oldest Miniature Art Society in the U.S. It is the second oldest in the world next to the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers in London, England--the world's first Miniature Art Society also founded by Mr. Williams. The Inaugural Exhibition of the MPSGS of Washington, DC, was held at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in December 1931. The Society has held exhibitions annually for 71 years with the exception of the years 1932 and 1942.
The object of the Society from its inception has been to encourage and stimulate public interest in art in miniature. |
