The Trail of Painted Ponies in Scottsdale, AZ has selected Maria from nearly 400 entrants in the "Art of Native Horse Painting" competition to paint one of this years 20 ponies. Each artist selected receives a cast marble pony sculpture approximately 24 inches in height and adorns it with their creative design submitted previously to the committee. Maria's design is "Native Jewel Pony", which she has not only painted in her colorful style but has also embellished with her original intricate jewel patterns. The 20 artists selected will display their ponies during a gala at The Four Seasons Resort in Scottsdale, AZ on May 5 and 6, 2006; the exhibit is open to the public on May 6.
