The Houston Zoo provides a fun, unique, and inspirational experience fostering appreciation, knowledge, and care for the natural world.
Be a zoo for all Practice exemplary animal care Deliver an outstanding guest experience Create a workplace that instills empowerment, respect, and teamwork Provide superior education and learning opportunities Promote conservation awareness and action Apply best business practices and sound financial management Inspire broad community support They have over 4,500 permanent residents, - animals, for which they provide housing, meals, medical care, and yes, even education! In addition, they have 1.5 million guests each year. The Zoo has long held a leadership role in conservation activities on both local and international levels. Their commitment to conservation efforts is even greater now. Through exhibit renovations and new habitat designs, they hope to make a difference in how Houston Zoo guests relate to wildlife, creating a more personal experience. Innovative education programs complement animal habitats, encouraging families and school children to develop a deeply held interest in life sciences, and a life-long personal commitment to conservation that can only better our planet. The Houston Zoo has developed a model Conservation Program for other zoos and conservation organizations to emulate, supporting fieldwork with endangered or threatened species both in our own backyard and around the globe. This effort is a priority of the board and staff. |
