Wildlife, Western, Big Cats, Birds of Prey, Domestic, Landscape

I start with a rough sketch and complete the background, then paint the eye.

I paint the inside and outside of the beak, then establish the the darks.

I paint a half tone wash over where the lighter areas are going to be.

At this point, I add some colour.

I start painting some detail.

At this point I shade some of the detail with a half tone.

Now I put more detail in, loosing value between the birds head and the feathers behind, moulding the image to realism.

At this stage, I have established the highlights and shadows and now paint in the final detail, that will make the painting come to life, making the image real, ready for framing.

Osprey, Study
The finished painting, mounted and framed.
