Soapstone Owl #2
(2013)
Subject: Owl Dimensions (inches): 5 x 3 x 1 Medium: Montana Dendritic Soapstone Description: This is a beautiful example of dendritic soapstone from Montana. I have seldom seen this color. In fact, the last time I saw it was about 1985. As the photo reveals, it is very orange yet still has the dendrites. I can only assume that iron mixed in the dendritic soapstone to create this beautiful color. It is a fairly simple owl and the back is smooth and polished. Having been out of the mine for many years, it was a very hard piece of stone.
The owl is mounted on a walnut base, 3" x 2" and 1.75 " high. I intentionally faced the end-cut forward as it, too, is very beautiful.
