Benji / Miniature (Commission)
Subject: Serval
Dimensions (inches): 3.25 x 2.5
Medium: Acrylic on Strathmore Illustration Board, 500 Series
Description: After seeing a miniature painting on my website of an African serval, these clients commented that it looked just like their son's bengal cat and asked if I would consider painting another. In all fairness to persons owning any existing painting - I never duplicate. I will do something similar, but there will be differences. We agreed that this would be fine and I proceeded to do several graphite drawings for presentation, one similar to the one they saw and one completely different. These were then emailed. One of the poses was chosen and I proceeded with the commission. Upon completion I sent an email of the final painting and it was approved. This was another instance where I was asked in advance to handle the framing.
Most people prefer to work with their own framer, but often in the case for miniatures I personally handle the framing. That's because most framers won't chop to the small sizes minis require, but I have a great source that will cut to the sizes I need. In the case of miniature commissions, I'll select several moldings that I feel complement the painting, work some computer magic and then present the finished painting in these suggested frames in a jpg format. The client makes a selection based on my presentations, the frame is then ordered, and once it comes in I complete the assembly.
