Description: Sankochou is a summer migrant to Japan's deep mountain forests. The male perches near the brooding female in the vine tangles, calling to her. After the young have fledged, the male looses his long tail for the flight to Southern Asia. I sketched these birds,plants and nest on location and finished the painting in my Oregon studio.
