Linda Darsow Sutton Transparent watercolor is the primary medium. Brought up to see color optically cultivated a personal fascination for transparent color. Attracted to the elegant atmospheric effects enhanced by the light bouncing through the color from the white paper. The results of light on the Natural Environment, Atmosphere, Wildlife, Water, and a sense of instance encourage a never ending attempt to observe nature more intimately. Inspiring a relentless need to express respect for the natural world we have left, and it’s preservation. Animal forms are explored with a less expected viewpoint to make an impression, while still respecting accuracy. Extensive research is often necessary. Colors, shapes, and light qualities lure the viewer with traditional Art Elements. Being sensitive to intended relationships is essential when combining the concepts in order to get past the reality of the two dimensional flat surface. A Significant Contrast and abstract structure establishes a mood or atmosphere. By employing the relationships between abstraction and realism to engage the imagination, it can create an environment of it’s own. Not so explicit that everyone feels obligated to respond to a subject exactly as the artist provokes an illusive quality of realism personal to the viewer. A distraction from the consuming pressures of civilization, even if only for a moment. Inciting a memory or maybe even inspiring a revaluation of priorities. It’s not how much information is on a surface but how much reaction evoked from that surface that is important. I don’t want people to just admire my paint, but have an experience, or remember one. Be “there”, go somewhere think about something! Hopefully imposing my opinion that our Natural world is worth saving.
