Kim DimentAnimals have always been my preferred subject matter. They have been a big part of my life, and I can't imagine a world without them. I might use acrylics or watercolor, pencil, pen or clay, but almost always there will be an animal in my artwork.
People seem to connect with animals. Perhaps because we still share a certain kinship. We can identify with the trials and tribulations that come from basic survival. It is my hope to rekindle this connection. By looking at a painting and relating to the way an animal is portrayed, or possibly wondering why they haven't seen an animal in a long time, that spark is ignited. In either case it is my concern that we are quickly paving and building over, acre after acre of, wild habitat without any thought to the consequences. Something has to snap us back to our senses. Why not images we can identify with ourselves? As humans we have to take responsibility for the fact that we are the only species that can so drastically effect the environment. If we are not careful, we may make it impossible for many things (including our children) to live on our thoughtlessly altered planet.
