Ian Bodnaryk

I feel nature is the most beautiful thing people have the pleasure of witnessing. I find that the colour, texture and complexity of nature are what give it visual power and beauty. When I can capture this intensity in my subject I know I have accomplished something extraordinary.
I am a self taught artist, having never taken a workshop or class. I find that in order to find your true path as an artist, you need to do it on your own. That being said however, I greatly admire many artists and am influenced by the emotion I experience from their style.
My mood at the time determines what I paint. This is usually influenced by current life experiences both good and bad. If I want to create a spiritual feeling in a painting, my work is usually very tight to the subject. If I am creating an atmospheric piece it is generally more landscape driven, having the subject as the secondary point of interest. Regardless of the approach, I always try to get the viewer thinking about the meaning of the piece. It is always more than just an illustration of an animal, it is the soul of that animal and what it is thinking and feeling.
I hope to create a mood with every painting, conveying a magical moment or a sense of tension. When I feel as though I am part of the scene or one with the animal I have captured I know it is complete.
As I evolve as an artist I hope to become more expressive in my work, creating more intense emotions and statements. I believe that this can be achieved without losing the awesome detail and compositions that are given naturally by the environment.

I dedicate my artwork to all life on Earth that has been altered in some way by the hand of man.
