Artist's Statement

I celebrate the variety of animals we live with through my stylized stone sculptures carved from a variety of white and colored marbles. I play with the formal elements of triangles and spirals to inspire ideas and add levels of meaning to my work. The design phase involves much thinking, drawing, and planning. The carving phase is a massive, exhilarating effort to coax the forms from the block, a challenge to give life to the stone.

My 20-year career as a Disney Animator informs these stone animals with expressive movement. My sculpture entices the viewer to interact with it--to feel it move from different perspectives even though it is unmovable, to see it change even though it is unchanging.

I wish to encourage awareness of the interconnected nature of our world and the species we risk losing through over-consumption of resources. So far, I have donated part of the purchase price of several sculptures to help build a tiger corridor in Southeast Asia and preserve sea turtle nesting beaches in Nicaragua.
