Artist’s Statement

I celebrate the variety of animals we live with, both real and imaginary, through my stylized stone sculptures. I play with the formal elements of triangles and spirals to inspire ideas and add levels of meaning to my work. The design phase involves much thinking, drawing, and planning. The carving phase is a massive, exhilarating effort to coax the forms from the block, a challenge to give life to the stone.

My 20-year career as a Disney Animator informs these stone animals with expressive, dynamic movement. My sculpture entices the viewer to interact with it--to feel it move from different perspectives even though it is unmovable, to see it change even though it is unchanging.
