The ISLT is dedicated to the conservation of the endangered snow leopard and its mountain ecosystem through a balanced approach that addresses the needs of local people and the environment. Founded in 1981, the International Snow Leopard Trust is the oldest and largest organization focused solely on developing successful strategies for protecting the snow leopard and its habitat. Since its inception, the Trust has worked on more than 100 projects with local populations throughout Central Asia. The Trust strives to implement creative and visible programs that make long-lasting conservation happen. All programs are founded on the understanding that we must involve local communities in project design and implementation in order to achieve long-term success. The International Snow Leopard Trust is headquartered in Seattle, Washington with field staff located in China, India, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia and Pakistan. The US-based staff focuses on program development, fundraising, and raising awareness among western audiences about the plight of the endangered snow leopard. Field staff focuses on research and program implementation with the involvement of local community and conservation groups. The Trust is backed by an active and committed Board of Directors. |
