  Defenders of Wildlife
Defenders of Wildlife is dedicated to the protection of all native wild animals and plants in their natural communities. They focus their programs on what scientists consider two of the most serious environmental threats to the planet: the accelerating rate of extinction of species and the associated loss of biological diversity, and habitat alteration and destruction.
Long known for its leadership on endangered species issues, Defenders of Wildlife also advocates new approaches to wildlife conservation that will help keep species from becoming endangered. Their programs encourage protection of entire ecosystems and interconnected habitats while protecting predators that serve as indicator species for ecosystem health.
Some of the U.S.'s most prominent biologists have estimated that protecting habitat for wide-ranging predators such as wolves will conserve 90 percent or more of overall biological diversity. Because wolves can require home ranges of several hundred square miles, their conservation can help preserve a host of other species making use of the same habitat. The wolf also is a symbol of wild nature. Defenders is leading efforts to restore wolves to selected former habitats in the lower 48 states and to prevent the extirpation of wolves in areas where they still exist.

Art for ConservationTM Commitment Goal:
$44,056.60 US.

Defenders of Wildlife has been indicated by AFC members as a potential recipient of donations by participating artists. AFC's Art for ConservationTM program, provides a forum to promote artwork that benefits recognized conservation organizations such as Defenders of Wildlife.

AFC members have voluntarily and independently earmarked a portion of the proceeds from the sale of their artwork to Defenders of Wildlife. AFC's Art for ConservationTM program provides a forum to help promote artwork for sale that includes such a commitment. Each artists's commitment is contingent on the sale of their work and the above estimate is a potential total based on the completion of sale of any original work and/or limited editions. The AFC is not involved in any way with artwork sales transactions, nor does it make any guarantees relating to artist commitments. The AFC takes no commission whatsoever from the sale of artwork under the Art for ConservationTM program, unless explicitly indicated.
