PBC is the only organization that specialized its program in bird conservation in West Papua. One of PBC's programs is an alternative education for indigenous Papuans, especially children at remote area. The main purpose of the program is to give children (who can not afford to go on school), the chances to basic education. Now we have this program runs at Syioubrig Village, Arfak Mountain. The village has been chosen because the children there involve with their parents in taking care the birdlife of the area at the first hand. This birdlife is a good local economical source for eco-tourism like birding. The Arfak mountain harbors at least 7 endemic New Guinea Birds of Paradise and 2 species of Bowerbird (as you may have seen in Attenborough in Paradise documentary). Some families at the Arfak mountain are now able to send their children to higher level of education such as university, because of the income they get from eco-tourism. Children are studying under tarpaulin tent with very limited teaching facility. For this they need funds to buy studying materials and a proper place to carry out teaching activity. PBC staffs are volunteering in teaching the basic lessons.
