My Ibiza studio showing loggerhead turtle drawing (unfinished) I create my drawings in my studio at our home in Ibiza. The drawing board is in front of large French windows and I look out at a pine forest with a tree lined hill backdrop. Many birds visit including crossbills, woodchat shrike, night herons, kingfishers and Sardinian warblers. We have wall lizards, geckos, tree rats and rabbits in the garden, with many frogs, fish and terrapins well established in two ponds. A perfect, peaceful setting for inspiration.
I take thousands of photographs while away on trips and ideas for drawings often come to me while I’m watching the wildlife. Back in my studio I have a library of hundreds of wildlife books that I’ve avidly collected since childhood. These supplement my own photos and together with my imagination, help me to create the best possible compositions I can.
The picture on my drawing board is of loggerhead turtle hatchlings scuttling down a sandy beach towards the sea. The references were gathered from Australia, the Maldives and Ibiza, Spain. Titled "The Incredible Journey" I hope to finish it and release limited edition prints later in 2013.
