Mt. Carmel Junction, Utah Becoming lost in the outdoor world even while standing in one place is part of the uniqueness of painting "en plein air". The work is inspired by a sense of immediacy and emotional response, and the need to capture the essence of a scene, or even complete a painting, in a two hour time-frame can be a challenge.
This photo is from a recent plein air painting trip in southwestern Utah, just east of Zion National Park. It is a beautiful part of the country and very inspiring.

My Studio, Santa Fe, NM My studio is in the wooded foothills southeast of Santa Fe. It is a quiet and peaceful environment, a space for contemplation and listening to music. I can paint larger, and there is time for study, re-arranging the composition, playing with color, and often leaving the painting alone for periods of time. The act of painting becomes a meditation.
