On the 28th march Tthe Dugong Society had an auction raising substantial amount of money through the auctioning of paintings and books. This money will go towards work being done on conservation of Dugongs in Moreton Bay off the coast of Brisbane. The Dugongs, by which the members are known, has only been going for four years, and the founding member Richard Lancaster has devoted his time to making members of parliment aware of the plight of endanged wildlife in the bay. The fund raiser also included a full length childrens cartoon of the dugong Named (Doug the Dugong) .This will be shown in a number of countries through the world in the coming year. IT WILL SHOW THE DAMAGE THAT IS DONE BY DISPOSING OF RUBBISH INTO THE WATERWAYS. In 1990 our population of Dugongs in Moreton Bay was nearly 800,whereas at present in the bay, the count was around 300. We are losing our wonderful wildlife at an incredible rate. BARRY INGHAM
