Pollyanna paints stamps for the Congo |
|
The stamps feature owls of the world, including barn owls, little owls, tawny owls, and eagle owls. The stamps also bear the Rotary logo which is used on stamp issues printed in developing countries to commemorate Rotary anniversaries, conventions, conferences and to support Polio Plus, the Rotary program to eliminate polio. As always Pollyanna's subjects have been painted from real life, and many of the owls features were cared for in her wildlife hospital. The series includes a painting of Daisy, the tawny owl hatched from a cracked egg, and Angel, the barn owl who many of the visitors to Pollyanna's exhibitions will have met. "It is amazing to think that my owls are being used to post letters on the other side of the world - and will be treasured by collectors for years to come" Pollyanna commented. Pollyanna has previously painted a series of twelve owl stamps for another African country, the Republic of Benin, while the Congo have previously issued stamps featuring her paintings of cats. Further stamp issues featuring Pollyanna's work have been scheduled. |
