Explorers Against Extinction |
|
Earlier this year, artists, explorers and celebrity supporters, were invited to donate a sketch to the 'Sketch for Survival' auction to be held at the Royal Geographical Society, London, in October 2017. The purpose of the auction; organised by the Real Africa Trust: to raise funds to help protect our remaining African wildlife, and fight wildlife crime. Funds raised will be donated to a number of conservation organisations, each one pivotal in the battle against extinction.
At the beginning of the 20th century there were estimated to be 500,000 rhinos across Africa and Asia. At the end of 2015, there were around only 29,000 rhinos (all five species). It is estimated that one rhino is killed every 7 hours and one elephant every 15 minutes.
I have supported a number cf conservation groups for many years, including the work of Rhinos Without Borders, and knew immediately which species I wished to portray. I also wanted to donate a painting rather than a sketch. Due to family circumstances, unfortunately I was delayed in starting my artwork and have since been beavering away for the past month or so, in order to complete in time. Am delighted to say that my pastel artwork was finally framed and posted a week ago, and my artwork is now online and Open to Bids! Below is the link to my 'White Rhino'.

A wide variety of artwork has been donated so hopefully the auction will be a huge success. Please share the Explorers Against Extinction website, as our rhinos and elephants need all the help they can get.
