Hawaiian Monk Seals Artistic Field Study |
|
In keeping with his studies and sculptures of the world's pinnipeds, which are one of his favorite wildlife subjects, Terry will travel to Kauai, Hawaii to study and photograph the world's only tropical seal, the rare and endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal. The Kauai Marine Mammal Response Field Coordinator, Mimi Olry, will be assisting him in his endeavor to record the seals with art pieces, along with Jamie Thomton of the NOAA Fisheries. Only about 1400 monk seals exist, and these organizations and many volunteers are succeeding with protection and propagation programs for the seals. About 40 seals, which are producing pups and growing in population, are residents of Kauai. |
