EXHIBITION RAISES $250,000 FOR WILDLIFE
In April 2016 Gary Hodges held his first solo show in 22 years Heart & Soul the Exhibition.

During the six day charity show, 141 framed originals and prints and over 350 unframed prints sold raising almost $250,000 for elephants and other wildlife. The money went to his two favourite charities, the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and the Born Free Foundation.

Virginia McKenna OBE, star of the film "Born Free" and founder of the Born Free Foundation commented on the private view "A personal triumph for you in every possible way. I was overjoyed to watch and hear the response from the crowd in the room. I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more. I don't remember ever being at an auction of art that has been as exciting, nail-biting and thrilling as this one! "

Over 600 people traveled from all over the world to attend the private view. The exhibition, held at the Mall Galleries, a stone's throw from Buckingham and Kensington Palaces attracted TV presenters, film stars, conservationists and collectors. Even royalty turned up, Prince Michael of Kent adding support to Gary's charity show. Amongst other guests were Virginia McKenna OBE and Rula Lenska. A live auction of 17 lots was hosted by BBC TV's James Lewis and raised over $175,000 alone.

The Heart & Soul exhibition book was published especially to coincide and complement the show. The beautiful soft cover book is limited to 1,000 copies and personally signed and numbered by the artist. Included within the 146 pages are all the drawings from the exhibition, a 10 page Q&A with Virginia McKenna OBE, a foreword by Dame Daphne Sheldrick and an introduction by BBC TV presenter, Michaela Strachan. It was designed as a companion to the show but also to work as a stand alone book. Both the printing and paper for the book were donated to aid the cause. It is available to buy from this website.
