| The Passion of Kitty Harvill |
|
Kitty’s love of wildlife is evident in each stroke of powdery hue and layer of paint that complete the themed show. The bright orange beak of the Anhinga glows against its velvety indigo surroundings, and one can almost feel the softness of the plush-crested jay in the pastel titled with the same name.
Harvill received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, including a semester of study in Paris. She received Master of Arts degree in art therapy from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and an Associate Art degree in illustration from Ray College, Chicago.
In 1990, she formed Harvill Ross Studios Ltd., a commercial art firm in Little Rock, Ark.
Kitty has illustrated several children’s books, numerous book covers and magazine articles, painted portrait commissions and still lifes. Her work has appeared in “Country America” magazine, “CATS” magazine, and on more than 20 book covers for August House Publishers.
Kitty also illustrated the cover and accompanying booklet for the audio book “The Animals Could Talk,” a Parent’s Choice Gold Award winner in 1994.
Now with permanent residency in Brazil, she has dedicated herself to nature and wildlife art. In 2009 she was invited to be a Signature member of Artists for Conservation, and in 2010 had two paintings accepted for the AFC international exhibit, “The Art of Conservation.” Harvill’s goal is to raise awareness through her artwork of beautiful and yet severely threatened areas of the planet such as the Brazilian Atlantic Forest.
Along with Kitty’s exhibit, Customs House Musuem will host a lecture and book signing event 7 - 8:30 p.m. November 27. Admission is free.
