Wildscape Magazine Spring 2012 |
|
Last year I was asked by the Editor, Ken Stroud, to consider writing an article for the magazine WILDSCAPE. This is one of the few magazines that looks at art with a wildlife theme. Often I try to find new ways to approach my art peices and still have it revolve around my passion for birds. I have tried numerous mix medium pieces with different types of paint, photo transfers, gold leaf and numerous Japanese papers to acheive these results. That does not mean I forsake the traditional medium of oils, watercoloror acrylics. Along with painting , I am happiest with my camera in my hand. Every day I hike the local area, my camera and bins are with me. If we are birding in a far off location , I am the photographer and thoroughly enjoy that aspect of the trip. Others with us may ponder over some subtle nuance of the bird but I want the photo. With a decent post editing program in my computer and the array of archival photo papers and printers available, I can finally use my photos in various ways that I never dreamed about. The article in Wildscape explains how I got to this point of using mix medium in many art pieces and explains briefly some of the steps I might go through. Except for the hours I spend downloading, sortingand tagging my photos, I thoroughtly enjoy trying new things on my laptop and seeing how you can stretch the parameters of art by using diverse mediums. |
