Opening reception to meet the artist September 4th from 5-7 pm. Karin Snoots is known locally and nationally for her miniature paintings. Earlier this year she took part in the 19th International Miniature Art Show in North Carolina. Locally she is also known for her painted surf boards and her support of the Surfrider Foundation and the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute (MERR).
This exhibit, whilst containing several miniatures also gives us an opportunity to see how her work translates to a larger format. 4x6 inch images will hang alongside 16x44 inch ones. It also gives us the chance to see her work in oil as well as her more usual medium, acrylic. The detail shown in her small pieces seems to transfer more than adequately to the larger ones. The title of the show, chosen by her, has allowed her to step outside her comfort zone. As well as her coastal scenes, she has worked a couple of floral paintings and a pair of cats into the exhibit.
Of her work Karin says: "My fundamental mission is to serve as a catalyst for environmental awareness and conservation. I am inspired by the drama of nature and I'm constantly challenged to capture the dramatic sense of scale in space and light. I never tire of the many moods and impressions of the ocean and strive to paint them with conviction and a deep sense of spirituality". Viewers will find she has been more than successful in meeting her challenge.
A featured painting in the exhibit is "Moment of Zen". Karin is donating 25% of her proceeds from the sale of this piece to MERR. The Peninsula Gallery will do likewise.
