Mastering Watercolor's Middle Values
Date: Monday, April 24, 2017 to Thursday, April 27, 2017 Location: Green Country Watercolor Society
Details: What will I be teaching? Why do Brain Surgeons waste so much time looking at X-rays & MRI’s? Because they want to see how to best approach an operation… “before” cutting into a patient’s head!
That’s why I train artists to develop and refine the unique skills needed to create “Gray Studies” of any subject… before starting to paint. The finished results of your painting efforts will vastly improve if you spend as little as 15-30 minutes studying your painting subject and its main features and values in a Gray Study.
It is far better to make mistakes in a quick study, than after hours of work. I will be training artists in the advanced imaging skills that allow you to create elegant and effective Gray Studies of any subject, and then take those subjects directly into full color.

Cheap Joe's Watercolor Workshop/David Rankin - Mastering Watercolor's Middle Values
Date: Monday, October 23, 2017 to Friday, October 27, 2017 Location: Workshop at Cheap Joe's in Boone, North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Watercolor painting are mostly about emotion. By working the middle values, you guide the viewer's eye to where you want it to go, increasing the emotional impact and depth.
In this workshop, you will discover that just as a cheetah is able to focus on one single zebra in a stampeding blur of stripes and dust, artists must learn to focus their artistic vision and decision-making on selected parts of their subject to the exclusion of everything else. Our focus will be correct color values, howe to build a better illusion of spatial depth and how to create masterful middle values for maximum emotional impact.
Details: Workshop in Workshop Item ID: WKSHP-00722
