Talk : Pollyanna Pickering : A Brush with Wildlife
Date: Tuesday, September 10, 2013
Location: St Chads Church, Wilne, Near Draycott, Derby DE72 3QH
Details: All are welcome to this talk, a fundraising evening organised by the Friends of St Chads. In this talk, Pollyanna takes a light-hearted look at her life and work in the beautiful Peak District of Derbyshire. Pollyanna’s work as a wildlife artist has always brought her into close contact with real birds and animals, and for fifteen years she ran a small sanctuary at her home to care for and rehabilitate injured wildlife. It was initially intended that she would care for owls, hawks, and falcons, but over the years she looked after many other birds and animals including foxes, squirrels hedgehogs and many more! In A Brush with Wildlife she tells the heart warming and often amusing stories of just a few of the many hundreds of creatures that passed through her care, and of course shows a selection of the sketches and paintings for which she is so renowned.

Tickets £7.00 including refreshments. Some tickets may be available on the door, but pre-booking is recommended – Tel 01332 872148 to book, or purchase tickets in person at Dundas the Butchers in Draycott and Breaston, or at Jas Heaps Art Shop Long Eaton

Pollyanna Pickering Exhibition : The Year of Natural Scotland
Date: Saturday, November 16, 2013 to Sunday, December 1, 2013
Location: The Gallery, Brookvale House, Oaker, Matlock, Derbyshire DE4 2JJ (AA Signposted)
Details: 2013 has been officially designated The Year of Natural Scotland, and in celebration of this event Pollyanna has created a remarkable new collection of work inspired by her recent travels in the beautiful Highlands of Scotland.

Pollyanna has sketched Scottish wildlife – including red squirrels, pine martens and the elusive Scottish Wildcats – from the banks of Loch Ness to the Black isle. Previous journeys have taken her to the Isle of Skye, where she stayed in a cottage belonging to Virginia McKenna’s Born Free Foundation. This peaceful location overlooking a loch provided the ideal base for Pollyanna to sketch the wildlife including Golden eagles, Peregrines, seals and otters. Pollyanna was also invited by the Eileen Ban Trust to visit the small island on which Gavin Maxwell, author of Ring of Bright Water made his home. Here she was able to sketch in the Trust’s private otter hide. Also featured in the exhibition will be Pollyanna’s favourites – Highland Cows – animals for whom every day is a bad hair day!

The exhibition will see the exclusive launch of new limited edition prints of Scottish Wildlife.
Also on display throughout will be Pollyanna's extensive ranges of greetings cards, fine art and limited edition prints, and a wide variety of gift ware featuring her work, including stationery, china mugs, cross stitch kits, signed sets of her postage stamps issued in Africa, and first day covers for the Royal Mail. There will be over 150 Christmas card designs to choose from, including the latest charity cards published by Guide dogs for the Blind, the RSPCA, Cats Protection League, The Wildlife Trust, and Blue Cross among many others. Four new fine art calendars of her work will be available for 2014, along with a new range of eco-friendly wrapping paper and cards. Pollyanna will be on hand throughout to chat to visitors and sign copies of her popular books. Tea and coffee will be available throughout. Ten percent of all sales will donated to Conservation projects through the Pollyanna Pickering Foundation. Phone 01629 55851 for further details.
