"Out of the Dark - Moose" My "Out of the Dark" series starts with a dark gesso canvas...it is not a dark black but a mixture of black, white and navy.
Then the painting is carved from the background with paint...rather like a sculpture would.
I paint from the nature elements that are brought into my studio for reference. The stump is sitting in the corner of my studio. The dry grasses, bark and twigs are all around me as I paint.
At this point I am focusing on bringing in the reflected light and shadows.
