North to Alaska! A big portion of my creative process as both a sculptor and painter involves wildlife and habitat photography, both for my own work, and for ripple effect of reference information sales to other artists. And a side benefit of the work is the renewal of spirit that always comes from being in wild places.

North to Alaska! The summer of 2016 saw me, accompanied by a Colorado birding friend, spending 10 weeks in Alaska, a place that has been on my “bucket list” for years! We covered a large portion of the state’s few roadways, as well as many remote locations accessible only by small plane and boat. To say it was the “trip of a lifetime” would be an understatement!

North to Alaska! One of the goals of that trip was in-person, close-up observation and photography of wild bald eagles, as I am currently immersed in creating a bald eagle family as bronze sculpture. The other goal was intimate knowledge and observation of other species for future work. Both goals were accomplished, and then some! The trip took months of planning and layout, but all the work was definitely worth it in the end. Keep an eye out for how this trip affects future subject matter and accuracy in my work!
