Courious Encounter-Painted Turtle For my studio paintings, I work from reference photos that I have taken over the years. I start with drawing out my ideas to design a strong composition. Then, I will often Photoshop elements from my reference photos into a workable image. The inspiration for this painting came while watching turtles as several of us were canoeing the Clearwater River near Seeley Lake Montana.
Here I have blocked in the image as an under painting. This is mostly to cover the white panel with color and will help me later with developing the color values.
Working on details and adjusting color values as I go.
Here I have added the dragonflies, worked more on the turtle, constantly adjusting color chroma and tonal values.
Finished painting.
