My painting is driven by wildlife encounters which I have in the field; I usually don't know what I'm going to paint until I open the flaps of the hide, or poke my head over the top of the dune. However in recent years several clients have commissioned oil paintings of particular species, and providing that I am confident that I can capture the essential character of the species (which generally means that I've studied it in the field) I am happy to do this. I always due 'mock up' designs to give an idea of what the finished image might look like, and these can be modified in the light of client feedback. Similarly, I send a photo of the finished artwork to the client before they commit to buy - a guarantee of quality.
