"Elegant and serene" are words often used to describe the graceful painitngs of Dorothea Hyde. The freedom and joy of effortless flight has been captured by a woman who has spent many hours sketching, observing, and photographing birds and animals in their natural environment.

Dorothea is a self-taught artist who developed a keen eye for design while completing free-lance illustration and layout assignments for large publishing and advertising firms in Boston and New York. Her extensive resume reflects the independent spirit of a world traveler having exhibited in England and Sydney, Australia. She has successfully shown her work from the Northwest to the East Coast. Also, Dorothea has broadened her experience by owning galleries in Honolulu, Kauai, and Nantucket Island.

Her artwork has a spare. editorial quality that is made more distinctive through the use of negative space that focuses attention on the main image with great drama and power. The atmosphere she is able to create is quite tangible allowing the selective use of vibrant color to shine through. Dorothea's love for birds is evident in the detailed work which easily conveys the mood and feeling of the moment to the viewer. Her acute awareness, interest, and concern for the environment all contribute to her sensitive portrayals of wildlife.
