About the Artist
John Harris loves the natural world and he deeply believes in the conservation of our wildlife and their habitat. John’s artwork has raised thousands of dollars for many of the local conservation and educational groups around Florida. He is a member of The Society of Animal Artist. This is a worldwide group of talented Artists who specializes in depicting animals in their artwork. Although most of his painting techniques are self-taught, his artistic skills are based on years of formal training. He attended Brevard Community College and then went on to achieve a Bachelors degree in Ceramics and a Fine Arts degree in Sculpture from the College of Fine Arts at the University of Florida, graduating with Honors in 1984. John is currently working for the Walt Disney World Resort at Epcot in the Engineering Services Department. John is an avid conservationist and often volunteers his time to protect our natural resources. Currently, John Harris is a Florida State Commissioned Local Official who's working as a Board of Trustee for Lake County Water Authority. A past Chairman for Lake Soil and Water Conservation District Board, he also actively competes in conservation stamp and prints contests each year. John’s paintings have been displayed at major Wildlife Art Shows and the Society of Animal Artist Exhibits. Including the prestigious Birds in Arts exhibit held each year at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin. John is the recipient of many Awards and Honors. One of Florida’s foremost Conservation Stamp Artists he won the State Waterfowl Stamp competition three out of the last five years it was held. He is currently the only Artist to ever win the Florida Contest three times. In addition, He won the Florida Ducks Unlimited Contest for the 2002 Artist of the Year. He was also selected as the Wyoming Ducks Unlimited 1999 Artist of the Year. In 1998, he won second place honors in the prestigious Federal Duck Stamp Contest. In 2004 he was selected to design two Canadian Conservation Stamps. Black Ducks for Prince Edward Island and another depicting Pintails for the New Brunswick Territories. In 2006, John’s painting “Misty Morning” of a pair of Black Ducks was selected as the winner of the 2007 Michigan Ducks Unlimited Sponsor Print and Stamp.
John is constantly working to grow as an artist and he has participated in many artist workshops, with such Master Wildlife artists as Neal Anderson, Daniel Smith and Robert Bateman.

John just recently achieved his third Ducks Unlimited "Artist Of The Year" competition and next year's 2006-07 Michigan Waterfowl Stamp will be his sixth puplished Conservation stamp design.
