Pursuing nature art in the manner of a field biologist has always been Michelle Mara's method of working. She watched and drew animals as a small child, and by fourth grade was spending all of her free time in the woods near her home observing wildlife, writing descriptions of it, and drawing and painting each species. Her education included natural history subjects as well as art, and she majored in ornithology and wildlife ecology.

Today, as an accomplished and dedicated young painter, Michelle works tirelessly to capture the perfection of wilderness and wildlife from the Rocky Mountains of northern Colorado to the arctic tundra of Alaska.

Michelle's originals are included in both private and corporate collections throughout the US and several other nations. Her work has won many awards and has been widely published over the past decade. She has written and illustrated numerous articles for nature publications. Her first book, which features over 100 illustrations, was completed in March 2004. Her home/studio is located on a forested mountainside near the boundary of Rocky Mountain National Park.

Much concerned about the protection of wild lands and animals, Michelle donates both prints and originals each year to conservation organizations for their fund-raising programs.
