Wildlife Paintings

Over the years, Ron Orlando's life long love of nature and painting has evolved into the detailed style of his present work. Collecting reference for his wildlife paintings, Ron frequently hikes the hills and swamps of his native New Jersey in addition to traveling around North America with his wife Debbie.

Whether it is a scene depicting a backyard experience common to us all or an intimate view of a predator in search of prey, Ron's ability to make a connection between viewer and viewed is what attracts people to his work. "What interests me most in creating wildlife art is presenting a moment in time. An intimate moment in the life of a wild creature; brought to the viewer through the imagination, insight and skill of the artist. To be so close as to feel the breath and heartbeat yet not to intrude. To be an observer, respecting the uniqueness, beauty and dignity of a wild creature; and to take away from the experience something basic, as if reconnecting with our own origins. A recognition that we are tied to nature right down to our very essence, and coming away from the experience renewed in spirit". Ron brings his experiences to life using a detailed layering technique that has become his trade mark. His acrylic paintings and limited edition prints allow his collectors to experience nature's wild creatures in a very personal way; bringing that moment into their homes to experience over and over again.

2004 was a good year for Ron. His painting "Olympic Twins" was selected as Grand Prize winner at the Arts for the Parks award banquet in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. This was the third time that Ron made the top 100 paintings selected for the show ('96, '99, 2004); as well as having an entry selected for the miniature branch of the show in 2005. Ron also had two paintings selected for the Kentuckey National in 2004, with an award of merit being given to "Early Morning Flight".

In the past several years Ron has been juried into many national wildlife shows and competitions, gathering numerous ribbons and top honors along the way. He has shown in the Kentucky National Biennial Show, Art of the Animal Kingdom, Bennington, VT., Arts for the Parks final 100, and was named Minnesota Deer Hunters Artist of the Year '98. Ron has also had an article, "Technique - Painting Fur " published in the March/April 2002 edition of Wildlife Art Magazine. 2005 brings another accomplishment with a national win in the Timber Wolf Alliance's Upper Midwest Region Poster competition. Upwards of 40,000 posters of Ron's "Broken Silence" will be distributed throughout the mid-west to celebrate "Wolf Awareness Week". In 2008 Ron won the Kentucky National with "Northwoods Travelers". A scene depicting three wolves emerging from a Northwoods forest.

Ron Orlando's work can be seen in various galleries and wildlife art shows around the east coast.
