Fred Szatkowski has been an illustrator, painter and graphic designer for over 30 years.

A graphic production artist and a commercial illustrator for industry and ad agencies in the early '80's, Fred supplemented this painting still lifes in opaque watercolor, winning numerous awards on the art show circuit.

In 1985, a visit to the Toronto Zoo changed the direction of his art toward the natural world, which he always had a love for, but was now inspired to focus on it in his art. This was followed by trips to Alaska and Kenya.

In 1989, he joined the Buffalo Museum of Science as an artist and designer, and for fourteen years was part of a talented and diverse exhibits team creating educational exhibits and natural history dioramas.

A signature member of the Society of Animal Artists and a frequent participant in the Leigh Yawkey Woodson's "Birds in Art" exhibitions, his work has been exhibited in prestigious Museums and Institutions across North America, from his first one man show at the Buffalo Museum of Science to the National Geographic Society's Explorers Hall.

In early 2001, Fred started creating illustrations for the licensing field, and his work can be found on a wide range of products from greeting cards to puzzles.

"I am compelled to paint and illustrate, I love the work and can't imagine not doing it. Its' in painting the natural world, the world created by God, that I take refuge and peace."

"Nobody understands it who has not had what can only be called the ache of the artist to find some sense and some story in the beautiful things he sees; his hunger for secrets and his anger at any tower or tree escaping with its tale untold".
- G.K. Chesterton

"All the terms used in the science books, "law", "necessity", "order", "tendency", and so on, are really unintellectual, because they assume an inner synthesis, which we do not possess. The only words that ever satisfied me as describing Nature are the terms used in the fairy books, "charm", "spell", "enchantment". They express the arbitrariness of the fact and its' mystery.
- G.K. Chesterton
