Oil paintings that illuminate our natural world. |

Rosemarie Armstrong Canadian Artist: b. 1956. Rosemarie works primarily with oil paints using a layering technique to build depth, movement, light and emotion. As a result, her paintings have a high level of illumination and atmospheric tension. Her technique is solid and her approach disciplined.
Born In Southampton, Ontario, Rosemarie was influenced in early childhood by her mother Helga Krehan, originally from Czechoslovakia. Through her mother’s detailed oil paintings of European scenes, she developed her own passion for drawing and painting, selling her first work at age fifteen. Rosemarie’s father was a Swiss immigrant who dedicated most of his life to commercial painting; from her father she gained competence in colour sense and mixing. She completed university and post graduate studies in english and education; for twenty seven years she taught visual, dramatic and performance arts. During this time Rosemarie began to work with Xiang Ming Zeng of China, whose mentorship has spanned twenty three years; his support and direction continues to motivate her creative spirit. She regularly teaches talented, emerging artists.
Rosemarie studies and, is influenced by, the works of great Masters including W.J.M. Turner, Ilya Repin, Winslow Homer and Thomas Moran. By blending the romantic mood of European artwork with her personal painting methods, Rosemarie has created a unique mark on the world of landscape and seascape painting, which is her main focus. She combines field experiences and in-studio work to develop sketches and preliminary compositions which form the basis of larger projects on canvas.
Her work has recently been featured on a book cover published by a Professor at Turku University, Finland. As a Signature Member of AFC (Artists for Conservation), Rosemarie supports national and international environmental and conservation initiatives. Her paintings can be found in over 50 private Canadian and international collections.
