"I want to inspire people to change their approach to nature in a positive way. I believe that if we have a better understanding of our natural surroundings, we will learn to love it and therefore care for it."

Martha A. Thompson

Born and raised in the Port of Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico, Martha A. Thompson was one of six children raised by her parents, a fisherman and home maker. She enjoyed time outdoors and making art in her early years.

After graduating from High School, Martha was granted a scholarship to the United States which brought her to Tucson, AZ to learn English as a second language.

Martha took her cultural experience and bilingual skills back home with her. While working at a marina in San Carlos, Mexico, she met her husband Glenn Thompson.

As a developing fine artist, Martha was influenced by her friend and mentor Larry Wollam, who helped her develop the knowledge and love of graphite and watercolor techniques.

Martha and her husband enjoy traveling thru Mexico and the United States. They often explore the Gulf of California which continuously provides much inspiration for her work.

Martha has multiple paintings in the permanent, traveling, teaching art collection of Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona. "I am passionate about painting things I love, specifically to serve as an educational tool. I am honored to be part of this collection about threatened and endangered flora, fauna and habitats of the Sonoran Desert because it represents my home on both sides of the border."
