Transparent Watercolour and Creative Journaling

Linda has lived all her life in Canada. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and then moved to Labrador. She vividly recalls the visual impact the Newfoundland landscape had on her as a child. "The colours were both tender and exuberant. I try to capture the quality of those colours in my work." She spent a collection of years in Alberta, and now resides with her busband in Fort Langley, British Columbia.

Linda has been working with watercolour for over thirty years, drawn to the luminous, transparent quality of the medium. She has been a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and has participated in numerous solo and group shows. Linda has taught at the Federation of Canadian Artists Studio, and at Simon Fraser University, where she was classified a 'Master Teacher'. Linda is a highly acclaimed instructor, and has traveled throughout the province presenting workshops on watercolour exploration, creative journaling, and the integration of nature, passion, and art. She teaches watercolour and journaling workshops and classes that emphasize freeing the expressive spirit within each individual.

Linda's watercolours embody a profound respect for nature. Recurring themes in her work include seashore, estuaries, rivers, and birds. In the past few years, she has found a meaningful connection between her passion for conservation and her painting, donating some of the profits from her work to the very environments she is painting. "It makes absolute sense - a direct line from my inspiration to those environments and animals I love to paint. My hope is to encourage people to see things in new ways and to act to preserve what is so precious."

Support for Conservation:
I have found that donating some of the profits from each of my solo art shows to The Nature Conservancy of Canada, I am connecting two deep passions in my life - conservation and painting. How could I feel such love for the animals and environments I paint without doing something very concrete to try and protect them?! It's something that resonates deeply in me as the right thing to do.

Special Achievements:
  • 2012 - Finalist: International Artist Competition
One of 12 artists selected for their "Seashores, Lakes and Rivers" worldwide competition. An honour to be among artists from around the world, and to be featured in their magazine. My painting, "Protected Shoreline" was the winning painting to be included in the Oct/Nov Issue.
